When I was sued over a debt of $5,873.77 that resulted from a fraudulent transaction, I did not know what to do as I am a monolingual and cannot understand complicated legal words without a translator. I am also a 70-year-old disabled senior, and my only asset is my home which I own. I was very afraid of this impacting my home.
I contacted Community Legal Aid SoCal for help. From the beginning, they made sure I had a Tagalog interpreter for every meeting and conversation. They took the time to explain everything to me in a way I could understand and made me feel comfortable asking questions and giving me answers during the entire process of my case.
Noha and Alma at Community Legal Aid SoCal took over my case, filed the necessary documents, met with me personally, asked me lots of questions and represented me in court, while guiding me through every step of the case. They met with me many times to prepare my responses and explain my options.
When my trial date was set during a time when I was unavailable, they successfully requested that it be moved. They also communicated with the opposing attorney on my behalf and prepared me for trial.
Because of their hard work and dedication, my case was ultimately dismissed. I was able to avoid a judgment and the possibility of a lien against my home. The outcome gave me tremendous relief and peace of mind.
I am very grateful to Community Legal Aid SoCal and the Consumer Defense Unit for standing by me during such a stressful time. Without their help, I would not have been able to navigate the legal system on my own. They treated me with kindness, respect, and patience, and they gave me a voice when I felt overwhelmed and alone. Their assistance made a huge difference in my life, and I cannot thank them enough.
