You make a difference.

Planned Giving

Leave a legacy of justice. You can do this by making a bequest in your estate plan to Community Legal Aid SoCal. Your bequest will ensure that we remain a critical resource in the community and continue to provide free legal help for the tens of thousands of our neighbors who experience a civil legal problem involving basic necessities of life like housing, health care, safety, and income.

Make Justice Your Legacy

Making a bequest is simple.

Here is sample bequest language you can use in your will:

“I hereby bequeath to Community Legal Aid SoCal, a nonprofit organization located at 2101 North Tustin Avenue, Santa Ana, CA 92705, the sum of $____ (or ____ % of my residuary estate) for the unrestricted purposes of the organization.

Here is more information you might want to include:

  • Our legal name is “Community Legal Aid SoCal.”
  • Our administrative address is 2101 North Tustin Avenue, Santa Ana, CA 92705.
  • Our tax ID number is 95-1994337.
  • We were incorporated on May 9, 1958.

In addition to bequests, there are many different ways to make a planned gift. Please contact your financial advisor to discuss the best option for your personal circumstances. If you are planning a gift to Community Legal Aid SoCal in your estate plan and would like to be recognized as having made a planned gift, please contact Emily Wing, Director of Fund Development, at 714.571.5290 or ewing@clsocal.org.

Stock Gifts

You can support our neighbors in need by making a donation of stock. Please contact Emily Wing, Director of Fund Development, at 714.571.5290 or ewing@clsocal.org to learn more.

Cy Pres Awards

Derived from a phrase translating to “as near as possible,” Cy Pres Awards are a way to direct remaining class action settlement funds toward a purpose that is close to the intention of the settlement itself. California Code of Civil Procedure § 384(b) authorizes the trial court to direct residual funds to nonprofit organizations providing civil legal services to the indigent, or nonprofit organizations to support projects that will benefit the class or similarly situated persons.

Given that Community Legal Aid SoCal’s clients are low-income community members who are often impacted by issues such as those litigated in class action lawsuits, CLA SoCal is favorably considered by the courts to be an excellent choice for Cy Pres Awards. For more information, please contact Emily Wing, Director of Fund Development, at 714.571.5290 or ewing@clsocal.org.

Donor Advised Fund

You can make a significant impact with a donor advised fund. Recommend a gift to Community Legal Aid SoCal through your existing DAF.

Matching Gifts

You may be able to double or even triple the impact of your gift to Community Legal Aid SoCal by making a matching gift. In addition, some companies will match gifts made by retired employees and/or employee spouses.

Check with your firm’s or company’s human resources department to find out if there is a matching gift program. The human resources department will also be able to provide you with a matching gift form. Once you have completed the form, please send it via email to Emily Wing, Director of Fund Development, at ewing@clsocal.org.
