I am sad to share the news of the unexpected passing of Lei Lei Wang Ekvall this past Sunday, June 27th. We were fortunate to have Lei Lei on our board of directors from 2014 to 2020. She served as board president 2017-2018, starting shortly after I arrived. She was a dynamo and instrumental in moving forward the restructuring of our program. She co-chaired our annual fundraising event for several years including the 60th Anniversary Come Fly with Us event in 2018.
Lei Lei made her mark in service much beyond what she did for us at Community Legal Aid SoCal. She was a former president of the Orange County Bar Association, the Orange County Asian American Bar Association, and the Orange County Bankruptcy Forum. She was key in the establishing of a pro bono bankruptcy clinic at the Central District courthouse. In 2019 she was selected by the Orange County Women’s Lawyer Association as Attorney of the Year.
There is no doubt she will be missed by many in the Southern California legal community. Lei Lei was an accomplished professional who we at Community Legal Aid SoCal are grateful to have known as a friend and steadfast supporter.
